GENERATOR, NO ELECTRICITY, GAS SHORTAGE, BOOKS, and FINE DINING

Delco The generator won over and we today got a new one and we will now take our time in fixing the old one, which we will use as a backup for the other three houses where we have generators.

Today as Byron was helping me install the generator, he received a call saying that the local electric company (EDH) was cutting the electricity at the crèches due to non-payment. This, of course, is quite amazing and perhaps we will now have more electricity if they in fact disconnected us. And of course Byron has the paid receipts in his pocket. But here in Haiti if you’re on the list, then the receipts don’t seem to matter. This was about 24 hours ago and we don’t know if they cut the electricity because there has been no electricity in the area to then find out if we aren’t getting it.

It looks as if the three-week gasoline “shortage” that we have been experiencing is over. Now this is Haiti where it has been suggested to believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see. So I am not sure why the “shortage” is over, but it seems related to the recent rise of the per gallon price in Haiti. The government sets the price of diesel, gasoline, and kerosene and it has been suggested that the gas stations purchased the current stock of gasoline at a higher price than the government wants it sold. And so a gas “shortage” has been in place. But now that the price has risen the “shortage” seems over.
