I’ve been reading quite a bit lately; it seems more so since I got an ipad. In the past several days I have read

  • African Friends and Money Matters by David E. Maranz
  • Truman by David McCullough
  • Obama’s Wars by Bob Woodward
  • Rising Plague: The Global Threat from Deadly Bacteria and Our Dwindling Arsenal to Fight Them by Brad Spellberg
  • Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson
  • Grace Notes by Phillip Yancey
  • The Church Awakening by Charles R. Swindoll
  • Now Reading: Too Big to Fail by Andrew Ross Sorkin and Rereading: When Charity Destroys Dignity by Glenn J. Schwarts

Reading for me is one of life’s pleasures, which I suppose is why I get excited when I spend a few minutes listening to the ladies in our literacy classes as they learn to read.

I think of David’s words in Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.” And how soon this will be possible for the ladies in the literacy classes.

Sometimes in the craziness of the day, just hearing a middle-aged lady haltingly read brings renewed encouragement.
