ESCAPING THE SNARE

Posted: November 8, 2010 in Uncategorized

There is something happening at the Heartline Women’s Center that is an answer to two years of prayer, thought, and discussion.  Our first bead/jewelry making class is going on.  Eight ladies sitting around a table under the watching eyes of Sheila Lynch and Bev Plourde are trying their hands at making  beads that will soon, very soon be transformed into beautiful cloth bracelets, necklaces and earrings.

The Haitian women are tremendously creative and it won’t take long for you to find their creations on our website or at our two shops in Port au Prince.  The purpose is not just to start a business but rather to help these ladies and the others that will follow them to be able to provide for themselves and for their children.

The issue is not are they able but rather it is an issue of opportunity, and we at Heartline are committed to give them that opportunity.  If taken, it can lead the ladies and their children out of the hold of poverty with its multiple tentacles that keep the ladies held tightly in their grip.

This class soon will create beads and jewelry that will be  be wonderfully beautiful and a pleasure to wear.  I know that the jewelry will be conversational pieces as those that see them will want to know where they came from.  And I can hear it now, “Wow, let me tell you about an amazing group  ladies in Haiti that makes pieces like this…” And the word will  spread and the tentacles will loosen their grip and the ladies who spent their time and energy just surviving will now be open to learning and receiving the words of Jesus, “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32

Practice Pieces

The first class has eight ladies from the ages of 14-35.  Please pray for them as they stand at a doorway which could help them escape the generational poverty that has ensnared their families for generations.

John
